Through this project, we found some really great people to work with - people who stuck with it when we ran into roadblocks, people who were problem-solvers instead of complainers, and people who really take pride in what they do, and do it well. Beginning with the folks at Motion Sound - John and Aloni Fisher are so good to work with. They run an efficient business, have good products, and are straightforward folks. We also worked closely with Samantha Lloyd, who takes care of business with a touch of charm and grace that makes us smile. Our video team - small as it is - couldn't have been better. Eric Ayotte essentially translated what we had in mind into a working idea. We shot at AudioMagic Studios in Buffalo, NY, so that we could get the high quality audio that would present the Motion Sound speakers in the best way. Matt Kiss, our engineer, was so easy-going and cooperative as we descended on the studio with two truckloads of gear! A special thanks to Robbie Konikoff who handled the scheduling with such aplomb. Jesse Selak - a former student of mine and a fine player in his own right - came on board as a tech to help organize and tweak the gear, and be my second pair of ears. He put in a lot of hours with me before we went into the studio, putting ideas together and trying combinations. Brian Garman came in, literally at the last minute, to do some still photography for us. He did a beautiful job, as you can see. The photos on the right are his. Glen Miller at Mike Wrona's House of Violins in Lewiston did a great job getting my guitars into the best playing condition. There are a few companies in particular who were especially generous with their gear. Fuchs Audio Technology makes one of the finest amps I've played, and I've played more than a few. They were very generous in providing me with an amp at short notice for this shoot. Andy and Annette Fuchs are great people to work with, and they have made an amp that is so responsive, it allows me to sound like ME. You can't ask for more than that. Peavey Electronics also supplied gear on relatively short notice. I can't say enough about the friends I have at Peavey: Hartley Peavey, Tony Pasko and Michael Spriggs. They are so generous in spirit. At their busiest time of year, they took the time out to make sure I had what I needed for this shoot. JPS Labs makes high-end audio power cords and cables. Their market is primarily the home-theater and audiophile world, but they also make cords and cables for musicians. We approached owner Joe Skubinski about borrowing a few things for the shoot, we ended up with all the cables we could possibly need: power cords, plug outlets, speaker cables, guitar cables, XLR cables, and even a few patch cables. If you are using high-end gear, you should consider spending the extra bucks to hear what it really sounds like. These cables make a huge difference. |
